How net worth is calculated
Net worth is everything you own at today’s value minus everything you owe. Count your home at what it would sell for, not what you paid, and a debt at what is left to pay, not the original loan. Worked out once a year, it says more about whether you are getting ahead than your salary or your bank balance does.
Liquid and illiquid
Liquid is what you could turn into cash within days without losing value: accounts, deposits, listed shares, funds and crypto. A home or a pension plan adds to your net worth but will not pay for an emergency, so the split tells you how much of the number you can actually use.
If you live in Spain: the wealth tax
Spain taxes net worth above a tax-free allowance, €700,000 per person under the state rules plus up to €300,000 for your home, and each region sets its own allowance, rates and relief. The calculator estimates it with the same engine Lait uses for its tax view, region by region.
How the wealth tax works (in Spanish)Frequently asked questions
What is net worth?
Everything you own (money, investments, property, belongings) minus everything you owe (mortgage, loans, cards). It is the figure that tells you whether your finances improve from one year to the next.
Should my home count?
Yes, at what it would sell for today, with its mortgage on the debt side. Many people also look at their net worth without the home, which is closer to what they could actually spend; the liquid figure gives you that.
Is my data saved?
No. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server or stored on your device. Close the page and it is gone.
How often should I calculate it?
Once a month or once a quarter is enough to see the trend. Lait does it every day from your connected accounts, so the history builds itself.
